Professor Lester Brown – an authority on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation from Columbia University – will be speaking about “Plan B 4.0” for a conference of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). His talk is on Thursday, 13 April 2010, at 20:45 at Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali in Via Calepina 14, Trento.
Prof. Brown is also president of the Earth Policy Institute based in Washington DC. The institute was founded in 2001 to develop a plan for a sustainable future and create a roadmap of how to get there.
As overstretched resources increasingly become a critical international issue, Brown and EPI are proposing an alternative: Plan B. This is the fourth version of the plan and Prof. Brown is presenting it in a serious of conferences around the globe.
“Will we follow in the footsteps of the Sumerians and the Mayans or can we change course—and do it before time runs out?” asks Brown. “Can we move onto an economic path that is environmentally sustainable? We think we can. That is what Plan B 4.0 is about.”
Plan B aims to stabilize climate, stabilize population, eradicate poverty, and restore the economy’s natural support systems. It prescribes a worldwide cut in net carbon emissions of 80 percent by 2020, for example.
